The Commission issued notice to the Chief Secretary, UP, on a news report which highlighted the plight of women inmates and their babies in UP Jails. According to the press report, thousands of women accused of committing atrocities related to dowry had been languishing in jails. The report had said that the women in the age of 17 to 70 years, had been wrongly confined in jails. A number of them were disabled and sick and many of them had been nursing babies.
