Our Visitors during February 2007
NHRC is one of the founding members of the Asia Pacific Forum(APF) of National Human Rights Institutions. As a step towards increasing interactions and cooperation between the member institutions, a staff exchange programme was organized by the APF. Under this programme, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission, Australia deputed two of its functionaries Mr. Jonathon Hunyor, Acting Director of Legal Services and Ms. Bridget Akers from the Complaint Handling unit of the Commission on a 10 day visit to the Commission. During their visit, the officials interacted with senior officials of the Commission. They were informed about the working of the Commission, training and research projects taken up by the Commission. They were also informed about the functioning of the Law Division, they witnessed the proceedings of the Full Commission and were present at the hearing of Punjab Mass Cremation case. They were told about the handling of complaints, they visited Tihar Jail and National Commission for Women, National Commission for Minorities and National Commission for Scheduled Castes. Mr. Jonathon Hunyor and Ms. Bridget Akers met the Acting Chairperson Dr. Justice Shivaraj V. Patil and all the Members of the Commission.
