Our Winter Internship Programme
With a view to sensitize the University students about Human Rights, the Commission conducts summer and winter internship programmes every year. This year, the winter internship programme was conducted from 18th December, 2006 to 17th January, 2007. The programme covered 40 Sessions on various Human Rights issues, State presentation, project work presentation and field visits. Some of the distinguished speakers were Shri Gerry Pinto (UNICEF), Ms. Yamini Pandey (UNHCR), Dr. P.M. Nair (UNODC), Shri A. Bannerji (National Commission for Minorities), Shri K.K. Gupta (National Commission for Scheduled Tribes), Ms. Anuradha Mohit (National Institute for the visually handicapped), Prof. V. K. Sharma (IIPA), Ms. Sunita (Peoples Watch, Tamil Nadu), Col. A. K. Sharma (Human Rights Cell, Army Head Quarters) and Prof. C. Raj Kumar (City University of Hong Kong). The interns also had Sessions with Members, the Secretary General, the Joint Secretary, Chief Coordinator (Trg.), Joint Registrar, Director General (Inv.) and Senior Officers of the Commission.
The project report covered issues like Right to Food, Juvenile Justice, Violence against Women, Eunuchs and Human Rights, Child Rights, Armed Forces in Disturbed Areas, Custodial Death and Torture, Complaint Management System of NHRC, Dalit Human Rights in Kerala and Primitives Tribes of India.
At the Valedictory Function, the Acting Chairperson Dr. Justice Shivaraj V. Patil and Members of the Commission interacted with the interns. Forty-one interns from different States were given participation certificates at the end of the programme.
