Photographers lend your support to the Human Rights cause

The National Human Rights Commission has been trying to create awareness on human rights and promote a culture of human rights within the country since its inception. It has been bringing out a number of publications, posters, advertisements and an annual desk calendar. To encourage photographers in their efforts at capturing on lens issues of human rights it intends to offer a means by which such photos are brought to the attention of the public. This being the use of such photos in its publications, posters, desk calendars and even probably holding an exhibition. For this, the NHRC would like contributions in the form of photographs from both Amateur and Professional photographers for which the NHRC would select and pay a sum of Rs.5000/- as a token of appreciation to the photographer. In addition whenever the selected photo is used, the photographers name would be acknowledged.

The themes on which photos are required by the NHRC are -

i) Rights of Mentally Ill
ii) Right to Health
iii) Rights of the Elderly
iv) Rights of persons with HIV/AIDS
v) Rights to Food and Drinking Water
vi) Rights of the Disabled
vii) Trafficking in Women and Children
viii) Bonded Labour

Conditions:

a) A certificate that all photographs are works of original nature and taken by the photographer is to be enclosed.

b) Print both Monochrome and Colour will be accepted and should not be less than 20x25 cms (8"x10"). The photo should not be mounted. Digital prints will not be accepted.

c) Each photo should carry photographer's name, nationality, postal address, telephone nos., e-mail address (if any), title and technical details on the reverse of the photograph in Block Letters. The entry should have a write-up on the subject viz. place of location of shoot, date when photo was taken, subject.

d) Entrants must hold the rights to publish, distribute and exhibit the photographs submitted and must not have transferred and will not transfer such rights to a third party or authorize a third party to otherwise use the photographs once selected by the NHRC for its use.

e) The date of receipt of the photos should be not later than 15 October 2005.

f) The entries should be properly packed and marked as "Photo on Human Rights", to be addressed to the I&PRO, National Human Rights Commission, Faridkot House, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi - 110 001.

g) NHRC will take all possible care in handling all entries but will not assume any responsibility for loss of or damage to the photographs in transit or otherwise.

h) The token money will be disbursed only on receipt of the negative of the selected photographs.

i) In order that NHRC may effectively use all entries for the purpose of promoting human rights awareness as widely as possible, it is necessary that -

(i) By submitting a photo, the photographer is transferring to NHRC perpetual rights, free of charge, to use the photographs in any NHRC publications or exhibitions (including those publications and exhibitions of the sponsor in furtherance of human rights awareness). The NHRC will have the right to exhibit and publish the photographs. While doing so the photographer will be properly acknowledged.

(ii) Selected photographs may be published in the media/website or be archived in the NHRC collection. Those photographs selected may not be published or otherwise used to promote products of commercial services following selection by the NHRC.

(iii) Negatives of the selected photographs in all categories will become the exclusive property of the NHRC and no claim of any kind shall be entertained.


j) No photos will be returned. No receipt will be issued.

k) Photographs submitted must have been taken on or after 1 January 2003 and should not have been used/published by any other agency.
