PLIGHT OF JUVENILES AT SONEPAT

National Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of a complaint received from Ms. Subina Mehra, c/o Mohan Lal & Co., Ambala Cantt., Haryana, drawing the attention of the Commission to the plight of the Juveniles, who travel from the Remand Home located at Sonepat to Juveniles Justice Board at Ambala every Wednesday. The Juveniles have to leave Sonepat at 7.00 a.m. after their breakfast and then wait hungry and thirsty all day in Ambala District Courts. There is no provision for their tea and lunch anywhere. They leave Ambala after 4 p.m. to reach Sonepat at about 7 p.m. If the juveniles reach Sonepat late in the evening, they have to forego their dinner also.
National Human Rights Commission has issued notice to Chief Secretary of Haryana and Secretary, Department of Child & Women Welfare of the State to look into the matter including the aspect of possibility of setting up of Juvenile Justice Board/Court at Sonepat or providing a remand home for Juveniles at Ambala. The report has been called within 2 weeks.
