Quick disposal of Human Rights cases needed
On 7th October 2004, Dr. Justice A.S.Anand, Chairperson of the Commission held a meeting with the Chief Secretary and senior officials of Rajasthan to review the pending cases in the State. He instructed them to take immediate action in cases of human rights violations so that victims get speedy justice. He also sought the cooperation of NGOs in providing relief to the victims belonging to backward classes, which he said would be a reflection of the success achieved by the State Human Rights Commission.
On the issue of bonded labourers, Justice Anand suggested that the State Human Rights Commission should identify them that in turn would allow for providing assistance. He also suggested making provisions for taking up welfare schemes for the bonded labourers in the regular budget by the State Government which could be implemented through its Rural Development Department. Justice Anand appreciated the measures taken by the State Government to check child marriages, but at the same time emphasized the need to create awareness among people about this social evil. For this the cooperation of elected representatives, politicians, academicians, social workers and police officials is needed, he said. The meeting held at Jaipur was attended by several senior State Government officials who made presentations on behalf of their departments.
Later Justice Anand also inaugurated a Workshop for Sensitization of the Jail Superintendents on 8 October 2004, which was held at the Officers Training School in Jaipur. Shri Chaman Lal, Special Rapporteur of the Commission, was present on both the occasions.
