Rajasthan Government asked to report on increasing child deaths

Taking suo-motu cognizance of a media report dated 15.12.2004 on child deaths rising in Rajasthan; the Commission has directed the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan to send a factual report within 3 weeks.
The news item stated that 12 children between the age of two months and 10 years of Village Jeerahera near the Haryana border of Bharatpur District in Rajasthan died in the last one month due to seasonal diseases. It also stated that the number of victims affected by malaria in the said village have increased as they do not report to the hospital. It alleged that authorities have blamed the family of the victims for their ignorance and lack of health awareness.
The Commission has observed that if the contents of the report are true, it raises serious issue of violation of human rights as well as Right to Health Care.
