Raped child rehabilitated

The Commission's efforts in rehabilitating a 4-year-old tribal girl who had been brutally raped by a 26-year-old truck driver in Delhi on 17 March 2003 has met with success.
The Commission has received a report from the Medical Superintendent, Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi that the minor girl has now recovered fully after undergoing three successful surgeries to repair the ruptures she suffered as a result of the assault.
Relief on humanitarian ground as directed by the Commission has also been given to the girl by the Government of NCT of Delhi. The Commission was informed by the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Vasant Vihar, Delhi that a cheque of Rs.50,000/- in favour of the victim has been kept in a fixed deposit on 5 December 2003 in a Nationalized Bank in her name for 14 years.
The Commission has also commended the role played by the NGO, PRAYAS in assisting the rehabilitation of the victim.
The Commission took up the case following a request by a social activist Shri Prithvish Sain seeking that the victim be given relief on humanitarian ground as her parents were not in a position to afford medical treatment for their child.
