The National Human Rights Commission organized its second Regional Conference for the North Eastern Region on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, at Imphal, Manipur from the 10th - 11th November, 2017. NHRC Members, Mr. Justice D. Mugugesan and Mrs. Jyotika Kalra, Joint Secretary (P&A) and other senior officers attended.
The objective of the Conference was to review the infrastructure available in the States for the protection of child rights and implementation of related legislation.
The officers connected with the child related issues in the States/UTs of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya attended. Besides them, State Human Rights Commissions, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and NGOs were also invited to participate. During the course of discussions, it was felt that a change in mindset was required to work for the protection of child rights. Awareness was also needed to be increased.
