The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI), University of Lund, Sweden organized a training programme for the representatives of National Human Rights Institutions in the Asia Pacific Region from 24th November, 2008 to 3rd December, 2008 at Bangkok, Thailand. Twenty five representatives of NHRIs of eleven countries including India participated in the programme. The National Human Rights Commission of India deputed Mrs. Mamta Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police and Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Under Secretary to attend this programme. The aim of the programme was to examine international human rights standards and their relevance for NHRIs of the region. It also aimed at exchanging experience about the challenges faced by NHRIs in the implementation of their mandates and improving coordination between the Human Rights Institutions of Asia Pacific Region.
