REVIEW VISIT TO SONBHADRA DISTRICT IN UTTAR PRADESH
A team of NHRC visited district Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh from the 3rd-5th February, 2010 to review the progress on the recommendations of the Commission during the Human Rights Awareness Programme organized in February, 2009. The team, headed by Mr. Justice G.P. Mathur, Acting Chairperson, comprised Mr. J.P. Meena, Joint Secretary (P&A) and Dr. Sanjay Dubey, Director (Admn.).
Earlier, NHRC in pursuance of its programme of visits to 28 selected districts had visited the district Sonbhadra to evaluate the level of human rights awareness and facilitate proper implementation of human rights. These included among others the right to food, right to education, right to health and right to custodial justice. Based on the observations of the team, the Commission had given some recommendations to the State Governments for implementation.
