Sarvesh Singh, a convicted prisoner died in suspicious circumstances in Central Jail, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. On the basis of the reports and the material on record, the Commission observed that the human rights of Sarvesh were violated. It recommended that the Uttar Pradesh Government pay rupees 3 lakhs as compensation to the next of kin of the deceased. The Chief Secretary of the State has been asked to send a compliance report along with a proof of payment in the matter.
