Amit Kumar died in police custody in Bihar on the 8th November, 2003 in Bihar. His father, himself a police personnel, alleged in his complaint to the Commission that his son died due to severe beating by the Dy.SP, Sachiwalaya and his guards. On consideration of the reports, and the material on record, the Commission on the 8th July, 2010 found that Amit died due to torture while in police custody, and recommended that the Government of Bihar pay rupees 5 lakhs as monetary relief to the next of kin of the deceased.
