Rupees five lakhs monetary relief in a case of death in police firing in Uttarakhand

Mrs. Manisha Chauhan was killed when a police party fired at the car she was travelling in Rishikesh along with her husband and children on the 15th November, 2004 in Uttarakhand. On consideration of material on record, it was found that policemen who tried to respond their car fired when they did not stop. The Commission observed that human rights of the victim as well as those of her family members were violated in a grievous possible way by Head Constable, Jagdish Singh, who was held guilty of firing gun shots on the car and has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court. The Commission recommended that the Government of Uttarakhand pay a sum of rupees five lakhs to the next of kin of the victim and send a compliance report in the matter.
