Rupees five lakhs monetary relief in a case of fake encounter in
Uttar Pradesh

Prakash Kali was picked up by the police from his house in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. His sister in a telegraphic complaint to the Commission on the 26th September,
2006 expressed apprehension that her brother may be either implicated in a false case or killed in a fake encounter. The Commission found from the reports sent by the police authorities that Prakash was killed in an encounter. On consideration of other related reports, including the post
mortem and Magisterial inquiry reports, the Commission did not accept the police version that Prakash riding on a motor bike was firing at the police party and was killed in exchange of fire. It recommended that the Uttar Pradesh Government pay to Rs. 5 lakhs as monetary relief to the next of his kin.
