Rupees six lakh monetary relief in a case of fake encounter in Uttar Pradesh

Ram Shankar, son of a poor farmer Bhansidhar Sahu and Prabhat Singh, son of a retired teacher Lallan Prasad hailed from Meral village of District Gadwha, Jharkhand. They were going to Beejpur by train.
The Uttar Pradesh police picked them allegedly in connection with a bus robbery when they alighted at Jharokas railway station. Later, they were reported to be killed in an encounter on the 2nd September, 2003. The Commission on consideration of material reports found this encounter fake and recommended that the State Government pay Rupees three lakh each to the next of kin of Ram Shankar and Prabhat. Compliance report along with proof of payment has also been sought.
