Rupees six lakh monetary relief in a case of killing by police in

District Panchayat member, Baljit Singh and Dr. Iqbal Singh along with their associates had come to police station, Hajra in District Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh to lodge their complaints in the night of the 7th January, 2007. Both the parties had heated exchanges at the police station where upon Iqbal Singh and his associates opened fire resulting in on the spot death of Baljit and his associate Dodram, while Gurdeep Singh alias Deepa got injured. R H Bansal, Chief Editor, Human Rights Observer approached the Commission on the 9th May, 2007, requesting intervention in the matter. The Commission on consideration of the facts of the matter held that prima facie it was a case of violation of human rights of the victims of the firing, who lost their lives due to negligence on the part of police personnel as the incident happened at the police station and recommended that the Uttar Pradesh Government pay Rs. 3 lakh each as monetary relief to the next of kin of deceased, and asked the Chief Secretary to forward the compliance report along with injury certificate of Gurdeep Singh.
