Remand prisoner Mohd. Haji, son of Ghouse Moinuddin, was lodged in the district jail, Mahboob Nagar, Andhra Pradesh, in three criminal cases including two murder cases. He was murdered by his rival group near the Court premises after his appearance before judicial magistrate on the 12th July, 2004.
Keeping in view the facts and circumstances of the case, the Commission held police escort negligent and a party in the incident and recommended that the Government of Andhra Pradesh provide monetary relief of rupees three lakhs to the next of kin of the deceased. Appropriate disciplinary action against the delinquent officials was also recommended and a compliance report alongwith proof of payment has been sought.
