Sensitization programme on Human Rights for BSF
A sensitization programme for BSF officers was organized by the National Human Rights Commission at Agartala in Tripura on the 17th April, 2012. This was the third in the series of programmes organized for BSF personnel. The first two programmes were held at Kolkata for the South-Bengal BSF Frontier and Siliguri for North-Bengal BSF Frontier.
Inaugurating the programme Mr. P.C. Sharma, Member, NHRC said that BSF officers need to maintain high standards of human rights while discharging their duties on the Indo-Bangladesh border. He also answered to a large number of questions about practical problems faced by the officers in their day-to-day functioning while protecting the border. Mr. Sunil Krishna, Director General (Investigation), NHRC, Mr. Damodar Sarangi, Special Rapporteur, NHRC and Mr. D.K. Arya, former DG, BSF also addressed the participants. Mr. J.S. Kochher, Joint Secretary (Trg.), NHRC and Mr. Viplav Kumar, SSP, NHRC gave presentations on human rights issues along with some case studies highlighting international and national legal provisions and the NHRC guidelines.
