Shri R.K.Bhargava is the new Secretary General of NHRC
Shri Ravi Kamal Bhargava has taken over as the new Secretary General of the National Human Rights Commission. Before joining NHRC Shri Bhargava was the Additional Secretary in Department of Justice, Ministry of Home Affairs. A Maharashtra Cadre IAS Officer of 1972 batch, Shri Bhargava has Post Graduate degree in Political Science. Also a Post Graduate degree holder in Human Resource Development from the University of Manchester, U.K., Shri Bhargava has a number of papers to his credit including the paper on "India Poverty Alleviation", through Technological Capacity Building", "Functioning and activities of KVIC" and "Transfer of Technology for Rural Industries in India". He succeeds Shri Nirmal Singh, who has since been transferred to Union Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.
Shri Ravi Kamal Bhargava has held a number of important appointments before joining the Commission. He has been Addl. Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Chief Executive Officer, KVIC, Principal Secretary, Relief and Rehabilitation, Govt. of Maharashtra, Principal Secretary, Textiles, Govt. of Maharashtra and the Chief Electoral Officer, Govt. of Maharashtra.
The Secretary General is the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission and the Secretariat of the Commission works under his general supervision.
