Singeing kids with burning stick in a school in Hyderabad

The media carried reports on the 11th August, 2010 that eleven school children of the Parishad School in Mahabubabad Mandal, Andhra Pradesh were inflicted burns with a piece of ignited firewood by their headmistress on the 9th August, 2010 which caused grievous injuries to all of them. The children were five years old.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the media report, the Commission on the 16th August, 2010, observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights of the children, and issued a notice to the Secretary, Department of School Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad calling for a report in the matter.
