Substandard disinfectants in Tamil Nadu Government Hospitals

Media carried reports on the 11th March, 2010 alleging that some government hospitals in Tamil Nadu are using substandard disinfectants. These could lead to high infection rates and even death due to blood poisoning. These are in circulation in spite of the fact that the pharmaceutical company was blacklisted on the 16th December, 2009. Taking suo motu cognizance of the media report on the 18th March, 2010, the Commission observed that its contents, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights and issued a notice to the Principal Secretary, Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai calling for reports in the matter.
