Training of trainers programme on social harmony and human rights
Mr. J.S. Kochher, Joint Secretary (Trg.) addressed the participants of training of trainers programme on social harmony and human rights organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur in Bidar, Karnataka on the 25th July, 2012. He shared information with the participants on the following aspects:
o Important features in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other covenants relating to human rights;
o Constitutional provisions relating to human rights;
o Important provisions of the PHR Act, 1993 and the functioning of the NHRC;
o The activities presently being carried out by the NHRC, including the camp sittings in States, open hearings on violations of Scheduled Castes' rights and bonded labour issues, programme of visits to 28 districts of which Bidar is also one of the districts; its intervention in silicosis, mental health etc.
