UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women visits NHRC
Ms. Rashida Manjoo, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its causes and consequences, visited the National Human Rights Commission on 30th April, 2013 and called on Chairperson, Justice Shri K.G. Balakrishnan, Members, Shri Satyabrata Pal and Shri S.C. Sinha, DG (I), JS (P&A) and JS (T) were present. She showed keen interest in the functioning of the NHRC.
She discussed with the Commission several of the issues within her mandate that she had taken up during her visit and sought its views on them. After a very useful exchange of views, the Special Rapporteur was given a number of NHRC publications to enable her to have an extensive idea about the Commission's activities, interventions and recommendations.
The Special Rapporteur has said that she would send to the Commission some testimonies, complaints and cases regarding human rights violations, particularly on violence against women, which she received during her visit. The Commission welcomed the submission of such complaints.
