Visit of the US Delegation
A delegation from the US Department of State led by Mr. Mark Lagon, Ambassador-at-Large and Director of the US Department of State's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, visited NHRC. The delegation held discussions with Shri R.S. Kalha, Member, NHRC.
The Member explained the functioning of the Commission and also various dimensions of trafficking in women and children, which were brought out by the research study conducted by the Commission.
Shri Kalha informed the delegation that the Commission has been emphasizing on rehabilitation of victims of trafficking and for prosecution of traffickers as against the trafficked person. He said that the Commission evolved a National Action Plan in this regard in partnership with other agencies. The delegation said that it would use the information gathered at the Commission to fight trafficking in the USA.
