As part of the UN mandated process of Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the National Human Rights Commission has decided to organise six regional consultations to assess the existing human rights situation in different parts of the country for the third UPR. The Western Region Consultation was organised in collaboration with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai from the 23rd-24th June, 2016.
Shri S.C. Sinha, Member, NHRC chaired the meeting. Senior officers of the concerned state governments and representatives of NGO's working in the area of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, women and children's rights, NHRC Joint Secretary (T&R), Shri J.S. Kochher, Joint Director (Research), Dr. Savita Bhakhry were present.
