Sir,

The National Human Rights Commission has introduced a "Winter Internship Programme" for University students with a view to give them an exposure to human rights issues. The Internship Programme, which has commenced from the year 1998, is an annual feature held during the Winter Vacations of the Universities.

2. It has been decided to hold this year's "Winter Internship Programme 2005" from 5.12.2005 to 4.1.2006. The programme would be open for students pursuing studies in Law, Political Science, Sociology, Criminology and PG Diploma in Human Rights from Universities of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi University, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi, Jamia-Milia Islamia University, Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (UP). They will also get an opportunity to have interaction with legal luminaries, representatives of reputed NGOs as well as other Commissions situated in Delhi. They will be required to study and scrutinise complaints, draft orders, present findings to the Commission, compile and analyse statistical data etc. The interns will be required to prepare their reports on the topic of study assigned to them during the internship.

4. The selected Interns from outside Delhi would be allowed ordinary second-class train fare to New Delhi and back to their place of study through the shortest route. 5. The students will have to make their own arrangement regarding accommodation and transport at Delhi. Since the cost of living in Delhi is quite high, it is advisable that application of only those students, who would be in a position to make their own arrangements for stay and transport at Delhi, may be forwarded.

6. Requests for leave (including for appearing in examinations) will not be entertained. The internship is liable to be terminated in case of unauthorised absence.

7. It is requested that wide publicity to this programme may please be given amongst the Departments of Law, Political Science, Sociology and Criminology of your University. Since only a limited number of students can be accommodated for the internship, the brief curriculum-vitae and application in the prescribed proforma (Annexure-II) of only five students in the order of merit (after a preliminary screening if possible) may please be forwarded to the Under Secretary (Estt), National Human Rights Commission, Faridkot House, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi - 110 001 positively by 10th November 2005 for consideration in the Commission.
