NHRC’s two-week online short-term internship concludes

Acting Chairperson, Smt. Vijaya Bharathi Sayani urges the interns to evolve as Human Rights Defenders to promote and protect the rights of weaker sections of society

92 students from different parts of the country attended

Online internships help ensure the participation of students from remote areas without any expenses on travelling and stay at Delhi

The two-week online short-term internship program organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India concluded today. 92 students from different universities in the country attended it. Addressing the valedictory session, Acting Chairperson, Smt. VijayaBharathiSayani urged the interns to evolve as Human Rights Defenders to promote and protect the rights of weaker sections of society. She also asked the interns to be considerate of the problems faced by vulnerable people and take action to address their concerns.

Smt Vijaya Bharathi Sayani said the Commission is committed to organizing such internship programmes for the students for their sensitization towards upholding and protecting the basic human rights of all the citizens of the country.

Shri Bharat Lal, Secretary General, NHRC expressed the hope that the interns will internalise and practice the knowledge gained during the internship for promoting and protecting human rights. He also motivated the interns to contemplate the positive changes they could bring to society.

NHRC is mandated to protect and promote human rights. For this purpose, it has been conducting internship programmes, collaborative trainings and various other awareness activities and to expand its outreach. Internships are conducted in person as well as in online mode. The online internships are organized to ensure that students from remote areas can join without any expenses on their travelling and stay at Delhi.
