Mrs. Justice Sujata Vasant Manohar joins as Member, NHRC
Mrs. Justice Sujata Vasant Manohar assumed charge of office as Member, National Human Rights Commission, on 21 February 2000. She was appointed by a Presidential Warrant dated 29 January 2000.
Born on 28 August 1934, Justice Manohar became a Judge in the Bombay High Court in 1978. She became the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court in 1994, and was transferred to the Kerala High Court as Chief Justice later that year. In November 1994, she became a Judge in the Supreme Court of India from where she retired in August 1999.
Earlier, Justice Manohar was in-charge of setting up of Family Courts in Maharastra. She was also the first Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the Judicial Officers’ Training Institute at Nagpur.
After the joining of Mrs. Justice S.V. Manohar, the National Human Rights Commission has once again assumed its full strength.
