NHRC's directions on the petition of Shiromani Akali Dal
Shiromani Akali Dal, through its President Shri Prakash Singh Badal and others, filed a petition before the National Human Rights Commission on the 3rd October alleging blatant misuse of executive power and authority by the Government of Punjab and political vendetta against leaders and workers of Shiromani Akali Dal. They alleged that the entire machinery and particularly officials of the Vigilance Bureau, Punjab were being used as tools to harass, intimidate and carry out vicious campaign against the leaders and workers Shiromani Akali Dal. They have given specific instances of alleged false implication, illegal detention, abuse and torture of Shri Badal's close relatives and party workers.
The petition was considered by the Full Bench of the National Human Rights Commission here on 6th October. The Commission directed that copies of the complaint be sent to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Punjab for examining the allegations pertaining to violation of human rights and send their comments within 3 weeks.
