Compensation paid to victims of Vaishno Devi terrorist attack

The Commission, in July 2003, took suo-motu cognizance of media reports on the killing of Vaishno Devi pilgrims at Bal Ganga near Katra when terrorists hurled grenades in the open compound of a Langar run on 21 July 2003. The Commission sought a report from the DGP, J&K on the incident and also about alleged laxity of security as reported in the media. The Commission has been informed that a sum of rupees one lakh has been paid to the next of kin of each victim.
