Justice Shivaraj V. Patil assumes charge as Member, NHRC

The former Judge of the Supreme Court and former Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, Justice Shivaraj V. Patil today assumed charge as Member, National Human Rights Commission.
Justice Patil joined Bar at Gulbarga, the Divisional Headquarters in Hyderabad, Karnataka area in 1962 and practiced there till January 1979. In February 1979, he shifted to Bangalore to practice in the High Court of Karnataka and was subsequently elevated as Judge, High Court of Karnataka in March 1990. In April 1994, he was transferred to the High Court at Madras and continued as Judge till December 1998.
Justice Shivaraj Patil served as the Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court from 28.12.1998 till 19.2.1999. Subsequently, he assumed the office of the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court on 21. 1.1999 and continued in that position till he was elevated as Judge of Supreme Court of India on 15.3.2000 till his retirement. Justice Patil fills the vacancy created when Justice (Mrs.) Sujata V. Manohar completed her tenure as Member, NHRC in August 2004.
