3. Young woman paraded naked in police station; NHRC calls for Punjab DGP's comments



An incident of alleged police torture was reported in the media on 19 May 2005, of the younger sister of a 19-year-old woman who had been murdered at village Bhunarhedi in Patiala. The sister of the deceased, it was reported, had been taken by the police for questioning where she was paraded naked in the police post complex as well as tortured by the police.
The Commission voiced its concern that if the contents of the news report are true, it raises serious issue of violation of human rights and an affront to the supreme dignity of a young woman.
Taking suo-motu cognizance of the incident, the Commission asked the DGP, Punjab to look into the allegations and submit his comments.
