Notice to Bihar, Government on checking the black marketing of Food articles



On the basis of a complaint received from Nalanda district in Bihar, the National Human Rights Commission issued notice on 02.02.2009 to the Chief Secretary, Bihar and to the Secretary, Department of Food and Consumer Protection, Patna to submit the status report on the remedial steps taken by the State Government in curtailing/curbing the black marketing of food articles and kerosene which are meant for the persons who are living below poverty line under the Antodyaya and Poshahar Yojana.
The Government of Bihar in response to Commission's notice had found allegations of improper distribution of food in Aaonda Panchayat as correct and action was directed against the negligent shop keepers and public servants. It was also informed that the Prakhand Vikas Padadhikari was asked to organize special camps ensuring issue of cards to the beneficiaries as per the Government schemes in addition to other such remedial measures to check the black marketing of food articles. The Commission while appreciating the steps taken by the State authority in this regard wanted to know the status of the action taken by the concerned authorities as communicated to the Commission.
