New Delhi, 14th January, 2020
The CBI Director, Mr. Rishi Kumar Shukla today said that the agency investigates cases as per the provisions of Law. It takes care that the human rights of the accused are not violated during interrogation.
He was addressing the interns of the Winter Internship Programme of the NHRC in New Delhi in the presence of NHRC Member, Mrs. Jyotika Kalra, Secretary General, Mr. Jaideep Govind, Director General (Investigation), Mr. Prabhat Singh and other senior officers of the Commission. The topic was “Safeguards during investigation/interrogation of the suspects so as to not infringe their human rights”.
Mr. Shukla said that the expectations from the CBI have only risen over the years. The number of cases being investigated by the agency reflects this. Collecting evidence and bringing the accused to justice is a time taking arduous process and requires a lot of manpower. However, the CBI continues to follow and process all the investigations handed over to it.
The Commission, as part of its special lecture series, has been inviting senior officers in the Government to talk about the functioning of their Ministries/Departments with human rights perspective and related issues and challenges.
