4. Two kidnapped girls recovered by the NHRC's Investigation Team
Due to swift and timely action of the Commission, two kidnapped minor girls have been recovered from Mumbai and Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
The Commission took cognizance of a complaint dated 7 October 2005 from a serving Head Constable of Border Security Force alleging that his two minor daughters aged 17 years and 13 years were kidnapped from the market of Kishan Ganj town (Bihar) on 19 September 2005 and the police despite a formal report, was not taking the required action.
The Commission immediately deputed its Investigation Team, which conducted on-the-spot investigations at Varanasi, Amritsar, Kishan Ganj and Mumbai. During the course of investigation at Mumbai, the team came to know that both the girls have married persons from other communities and were staying at Pratapgarh, UP. As a result of the initiative of the NHRC team the girls were recovered on 14 December and 17 December 2005. The elder of the two was recovered from Mumbai while the younger one surrendered before the police in Pratapgarh. On the advice of the Commission the Bihar Police took possession of both the girls and produced them before the competent Court. The elder girl has been sent by the Court to Patna Remand Home, while her younger sister has been handed over to the father for safe custody. The Bihar Police is investigating the matter further.
