5. Proposed New Secretariat at Marina Beach Chennai dropped; Livelihood of fisherwomen not affected; Tamil Nadu Government informs NHRC

The case of Marina coastal fisher women, who were planned to be evicted by the State Government of Tamil Nadu for locating the Secretariat building, was referred to the NHRC by the National Commission for Women. The Commission took up the issue with the State Government. The State Government has conveyed to the Commission that it has dropped the plan for the construction of the Secretariat building near the beach.
