Commission bids farewell to Justice J.S. Verma



The Members and Staff of the Commission bid an emotional farewell to the outgoing Chairperson of the Commission Mr. Justice J.S. Verma on 17 January 2003. Justice Verma, who joined the Commission on 4 November 1999, demitted office on 17 January 2003.

At a function, which was attended by the Members, officers and staff of the Commission, glowing tributes were paid to Mr. Justice Verma for his contribution to the cause of human rights in the country. During his tenure, the Commission deepened and widened its efforts to promote and protect human rights in the country and to spread the message of human rights to a larger cross-section of people. In his response, the out-going Chairperson thanked all present for their excellent team effort and for their devotion to the promotion of a culture of human rights in the country. He exhorted them to continue to work with renewed vigour and commitment.
