Dr. Parvinder Sohi Behuria joins the NHRC as Secretary General
Dr. Parvinder Sohi Behuria joined the NHRC as Secretary General on the 8th November, 2013. She is a 1977 batch Officer of the Indian Revenue Service. Prior to joining the Commission, she was Member, Central Board of Direct Taxes and Special Secretary to the Government of India. A double post-graduate in English literature from the Delhi University and the Southern Methodist University, Dallas, USA, she did Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of the Philippines.
Dr. Behuria has held various important assignments in the government, including, Member (Revenue) in the Central Board of Direct Taxes and Secretary, Public Enterprises Selection Board. She was also part of the Core Team that designed and developed the Income Tax PAN in 1994-95 and was instrumental in implementation of information technology system reforms in the Income Tax Department.
Dr. Behuria has attended various international professional training programmes, including, 'Leadership and Strategic Management Thinking' at the University of Cambridge, UK, 'Global Leadership Management Programme' at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA and 'Leaders in Development Management' at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA.
She has two publications to her credit - 'Direct Foreign Investments in Indonesia: Macroeconomic Impact and Structural Change' and 'The Wife of Bath and Ovid's Myth of Arachne'.
