Drinking water causing disability in Gaya, Bihar<br> (Case No.776/4/11/2010)<br>
Media carried report on the 4th April, 2010 alleging that youths of Bhoopnagar village in Gaya, Bihar are affected by Fluorosis disease due to polluted drinking water. Due to this disease, the youths have become handicapped. Nobody is prepared to marry them because of their disability. The report also alleged that there are no medical facilities for the affected people in the area. Taking suo motu cognizance of the report, the Commission on the 19th April, 2010 observed that its contents, if true, raised serious issue of violation of human rights of the youths, and issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Bihar and Secretary (Health), Government of Bihar calling for reports in the matter.
