Minor girls raped and molested in an orphanage in Odisha; NHRC issues notices to D.M. and S.P., Sambalpur

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that two minor girls were raped and two others were molested the owner of an orphanage located on the outskirts of Sambalpur town in Odisha.

Allegedly, the sexual exploitation of the girls happened during the past one month. The administration has closed down the orphanage and shifted the inmates to other orphanages. The accused has also been arrested.

The Commission has observed that the contents of media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of inmates of the orphanage and issued notices to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police to submit reports within four weeks.
