New Members of NHRC

Shri R.S. Kalha and Justice Shri Y. Bhaskar Rao have joined the National Human Rights Commission as Members on 12 September and 10 October 2003 respectively.
An Officer from the Indian Foreign Service (1965 batch), Shri Kalha retired as Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs in February 2002. He also served as India's Ambassador to Indonesia and Iraq. He also held a number of important assignments in the Ministry of External Affairs, besides being Member, Board for Recruitment of Civil Services (UPSC) for 2002-2003.
Justice Shri Y. Bhaskar Rao began his career as an advocate in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh in 1964 and was appointed Permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in July 1986. He was transferred to the Karnataka High Court in November 1997 as a Judge and was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on 9 March 1999, which position he held until 26 June 2000. He was Chairperson of the State Human Rights Committee in Andhra Pradesh between 18 September 2002 and 9 October 2003.
