NHRC, India at ICC Conference



Justice Shri Cyriac Joseph, Acting Chairperson, and Shri S.C. Sinha, Member NHRC attended the 12th International Coordinating Committee (ICC) Conference of the National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights at Merida, Yucatan, Mexico from the 8th to 10th October, 2015. The Conference was organized by the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico (CNDH) in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and ICC. The Conference deliberated upon the role for the National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS).
On the 8th October, 2015 Justice Cyriac Joseph addressed the 4th Session on SDGS, NHRIs, Non-Discrimination and Vulnerable Groups. The participants, while acknowledging the progress made under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), noted that these were not rights based and failed to reach all. The Conference concluded with the adoption of the Merida Declaration, which encourages all NHRIs, in line with their mandates under the Paris Principles, to collaborate in mutual capacity building and sharing of experiences to contribute to a human rights-based approach to implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
