NHRC notice to Police Commissioner, Faridabad over reports of third degree torture of a class seven student (12.5.2015)

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that a student of class seven, allegedly fed up with third degree torture by Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), DLF, Faridabad, Haryana, consumed a poisonous substance. He had to be admitted in a critical condition in a hospital. Reportedly, the child was picked up on 25th April, 2015 by a CIA, DLF team on suspicion of selling a stolen mobile phone. He was taken to the Police Chowki; brutally beaten up and subjected to torture using various methods.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the media reports, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child. Accordingly, it has issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Faridabad, Haryana calling for a report within four weeks.
