One day seminar on RTI<br>

Mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC presided over a day long seminar on 'RTI- Key to good governance' organized by the Institute of Secretarial Training and Management (ISTM), New Delhi on the 29th October, 2010.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the Right to Information is an extension of the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression. Unless we have the Right to Information there is no meaning of the Right for Freedom of Expression. Mr. Justice Balakrishnan said that the Right to Information Act has made a tremendous impact in our society. Many of the valuable information which were hither to kept secret and inaccessible became available to the citizens. Justice Balakrishnan said that having come into force in 2005, the RTI Act has worked for fairly reasonable period, and it would be worthwhile to analyze the enforcement of the provisions of this Act, and also the functioning of the various authorities under it.
