Public Consultations on Racism





The Commission is organizing two National Public Consultations on Racism - one in Bangalore and the other in Delhi. It is also organizing two Seminars on Racism at Bangalore and Delhi, which will precede the Public Consultations. These are being done with the objective of ascertaining the viewpoints of the human rights activists, NGOs, academics and others on the issues of Racism and Racial Intolerance. This exercise assumes special significance in view of the forthcoming World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, which is being organized at Durban, South Africa from 31 August – 7 September 2001.



The first National Consultation on Racism is scheduled to be held in Bangalore on 4 August 2001 and the venue will be the Senate Hall, City Central College Campus, Bangalore University, Ambedkar Veedhi, Bangalore – 1 (Next to K.R. Circle). The day-long public hearing will start from 10 a.m. on that day. All non-governmental organizations, human rights activists and others who wish to bring any aspect related to the World Conference on Racism to the attention of the Commission can do so by sending a written statement to the Secretary General, NHRC, Sardar Patel Bhawan, Sansad Marg, New Delhi. In addition, they can also present it in person, if they so wish.
