Workshop on Elimination of Bonded Labour System




The National Human Rights Commission organised Workshop on 'Elimination of Bonded Labour System' in collaboration with the Government of Kerala at Gokulam Park Hotel and Convention Center, Kaloor-I, Kochi, Ernakulam, Kerala on the 12th January, 2018. Mr. Justice D. Murugesan, Member, NHRC chaired the workshop.
The participants of the Workshop included senior officers of the Government of Kerala, Kerala State Human Rights Commission, NGOs and representatives of brick kilns, stone crushing and other related industries, academicians and final year law students/research scholars from Kerala University.
The objective of the Workshop was to familiarize and sensitize the District Magistrates, Sub Divisional Magistrates, State Labour Officers and Members of Vigilance Committees, owners of brick kilns, stone crushing and other related industries etc. about the process of identification, release and rehabilitation of bonded labourers and the provisions of Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976 and other related legislations. The Commission has organised 43 workshops on elimination of bonded labour so far.
