Protection from Domestic Violence Bill, 2002



The protection from Domestic Violence Bill drafted by the Department of Women and Child Development in consultation with the Ministry of Law, Justice & Company Affairs (Legislative Department), Government of India was introduced in Parliament on 8 March 2002. Thereafter, the bill was referred to the Standing Committee of Parliament pertaining to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, for further examination and suggestion of changes, if any, required in the Draft Bill. After the Standing Committee submitted its report, the Department of Women and Child Development sent a copy of the Draft Bill along with a copy of the report of the Standing Committee to the NHRC for its comments. The provisions of the Draft Bill and the report containing the recommendations of the Standing Committee were examined by the Commission and its comments for modifications were forwarded to the Department of Women and Child Development on 30 January 2003.
